Sometimes I have ideas but I don’t know where they belong, this as always been my problem, then I stumble across someone that allows it all to make sense. I need to just relax and make the ideas real then decided what to do with them or where they belong. I hope that makes sense. I am now going to share with you some of the people I have found that help me make sense of what I make or inspire me in some way.

I will begin with the first blog to send me on my new journey, this was only a few weeks ago, Mieke Willems- two girls from Belgium with a beautiful little shop. There website says – Veronik likes drawing and cutting papers, Mieke collects all the nice things in the world, this is the front of their shop in Antwerp.

Lots of things have been happening since I last blogged and my brain has been working overtime trying to process all the information I’ve been feeding it. I had already decided I wasn’t happy with the way my work was going and wanted to make changes. I had no idea at that time the journey i was about to be sent on. During 3 weeks in July Manchester held the Manchester International Festival(MIF) which was amazing, I just wish I had gone to see more of the events, it was a series of world premieres in the Arts. We went to the Marina Abramovic presents performance art event at the Whitworth art gallery, probably the most talked about event. It was a truly life changing experience and I’m so glad I went. It really got me thinking about my own work and took me back to my university days when I had big dreams of making art. I wished I knew more about performance art while studying, thinking I would have pushed my ideas further with this knowledge. Time has now passed and I went down the road of getting a job and continuing to make my own work in my spare time. Slowly my ideas have been lost and my work has tried to become too commercial. I came away from the Whitworth feeling excited and inspired but also a little sad that I let my ideas slip away so easily. So time for reflection was needed.

My current thoughts are to return to the ideas that were so important to me but not to ignore what has happened in the meantime. I currently trying to fuse the two together and make work that I am happy with. I have been doing a bit of research on the Internet and discovering artists whose work inspires and excites me. I have always been drawn to work that crosses boundaries and is either one thing or another but a combination of things that we like to call art, design or craft. I love the ideas of art, the aesthetics of design and the workmanship of craft, so my new work will hopefully  start to encompass all of the above.
